CAPABILITIES
Learn, make and prove in one place
INFINITY will combine six core capabilities, enabling partners to design, manufacture, test and scale on one UK site - dramatically reducing the need to ship prototypes around the world.
A catalyst for sovereign UK advanced manufacturing
Hot isostatic pressing. Power beam welding. Industrial-scale additive manufacturing. INFINITY will open up UK one-site manufacture, test and scaling for the first time.

01
Skills & training
High-integrity manufacturing will require 40,000+ new skilled entrants by 2030.
Building on the success of the Rolls-Royce Nuclear Skills Academy, INFINITY will create new career pathways and deliver new skills programmes in order to:
• Create new opportunities for local communities
• Develop skills aligned to future industry needs
• Support career transitions into high-value manufacturing
• Strengthen supply chains through a pipeline of skilled talent
• Accelerate innovation through access to world-class facilities.
INFINITY will train 1,500+ people annually.
02
Prototyping
INFINITY will provide secure, flexible full-scale prototyping facilities for high-integrity components. The facilities will enable organisations to validate designs, prove manufacturing processes, and accelerate innovation while safeguarding valuable intellectual property.
Key benefits include:
• Reduced technical and programme risk
• Accelerated manufacturing innovation
• Protection of intellectual property
• Faster routes to production
• Improved supply chain readiness.
By combining full-scale prototyping with Test & Validation, advanced manufacturing, and digital engineering capabilities, INFINITY will help industry innovate faster, de-risk investment decisions, and deliver high-integrity components with greater confidence and efficiency.
03
Test & validation
INFINITY will repatriate Test & Validation to the UK.
Sending high integrity components abroad costs UK industry three times more and takes times longer. This directly affects programme timelines and costs, undermining business cases for new developments and causing costly delays to active programmes. The Fingleton Report highlights regulatory challenges faced by the nuclear sector.
INFINITY will develop a Test & Validation facility to deliver objective engineering data for high integrity large scale components faster and cheaper than currently available. This matches with key recommendations from the Fingleton Report.
04
Supply chain
To meet growing demand across the fission, fusion, defence, and aerospace sectors, industry primes need supply chains that are agile, resilient, and ready to scale.
INFINITY is creating a collaborative ecosystem where primes, suppliers, and skills providers work together to accelerate manufacturing innovation and programme delivery. Support will focus on:
• Adopting new manufacturing processes within existing supply chains
• Scaling supplier capabilities to meet increasing demand
• Supporting businesses from adjacent sectors to enter high-integrity manufacturing markets
• Attracting specialist suppliers to co-locate within the INFINITY ecosystem.
By combining industry primes, suppliers, advanced manufacturing, digital engineering, and skills, INFINITY will strengthen supply chain resilience and accelerate industrial growth. It will create a nationally significant hub for high-integrity manufacturing excellence.
05
Digital engineering
Digital Engineering is the digital thread that connects every INFINITY pillar. It links design, manufacture, validation and operational performance into a single connected ecosystem.
Digital engineering delivers:
• Faster design cycles
• Flexible, connected supply chains
• Agile manufacturing and scale-up
• Integrated test and validation
• Trusted, traceable supply ecosystems
• Through-life performance visibility and optimisation.
06
Advanced manufacturing
INFINITY will make strategic investments in advanced manufacturing capabilities that are beyond the reach of individual industry primes.
Through shared access to world-class assets, INFINITY will increase production capacity, improve delivery speed, enhance material efficiency, and optimise component performance.
Focused on meeting growing demand for high-integrity manufacturing, INFINITY's investment centres on three key technologies:
• Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) capability, enhancing material integrity at unprecedented scale.
• Power Beam Welding (PBW) capability for the efficient manufacture of large, complex components.
• Direct Energy Deposition (DED) Additive Manufacturing capability, reducing lead times and material waste while supporting production and repair.
Together, these technologies will deliver a step change in the UK's high-integrity manufacturing capability.
FAQS
Capability questions
What is hot isostatic pressing?
Hot isostatic pressing is a process that uses heat and pressure to strengthen and treat large metal parts, improving material performance in demanding applications.
Can smaller suppliers access the facilities?
Yes. Supply chain is one of INFINITY’s six capabilities. We will blend Primes with small and mid-sized suppliers on one site. Access routes will be confirmed as facilities come online.
When will manufacturing capability be available?
Capability arrives in phases from 2028, subject to investment. See the development timeline on the About page for more information.
Do you offer independent testing?
Test and validation is planned as an onsite capability – meaning that components can be assessed onsite next to where they were made.
